Blessed

Matt. 5:3-10

Introduction:

  1. If we were to ask the question who is the really lucky or blessed person, we might think of people who:
  1. These things have great value. I think of Jesus growing up.
  2. Luke 2:52 And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

  3. But Jesus describes blessed people in a little different way in the Sermon on the Mount.
    1. A blessed person in God’s eyes is truly blessed—a person who should rejoice and be glad. Congratulations!
    2. Isa. 55:8-9 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My ways," declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts."

    3. It is easy for us to miss God’s perspective.

Eccl. 9:11 I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise, nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to men of ability; for time and chance overtake them all.

Blessed People in the eyes of Jesus:

Matt. 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

  1. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

5 "Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.

6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

7 "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

10 "Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 "Blessed are you when men cast insults at you, and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, on account of Me.

12 "Rejoice, and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Are you blessed?
